The 2016 RV Rev Up - Project Kitchen

We are now going on 2 years with "Bertha".  We re-did the sleeping bunk to accommodate the dogs, and re-did all the window treatments.  We did not do much interior work on her last year as we had a few too many bills but 2016 is a whole new year!

We have decided this year we would:
1. Spruce up the kitchen with new wall tiles and window treatment
2. Add new light fixtures in the couch area
3. Rip up the 20 yr old carpeting and put in new flooring
4. Change out all the old blinds that are broken and replace with accordion blinds
5. Re-build the dinette to accommodate 2 large crates in the seats for the dogs
6. Take off old manual awning and replace with power awning (done by professional)
7. Fix walls from old water damage

So, we pulled her out of storage and the first thing we did was the kitchen.  Below you can see the pictures Before, during, and after.

Here is the Kitchen before.  I had already started to remove some items like the spice rack.

So we had seen online on a bunch of blogs, people using the Smart Tiles.  So I did my research and they seemed to be the cheapest and easiest way to update our kitchen.  Yes, I could have just painted but I think this was a better idea.  You can find them at most home improvement stores and even Walmart.  They can average about $9 a 10x9 square and are super easy to install.  you just pull the backing off and stick.  You can cut them to fit in most small spots. You can also order them from Amazon here:

The install in process.
We took the molding off the window easily by unscrewing it and then screwed right over the tiles.  It was simple.

More progress around the corner.

The finished product with new blinds

I have to say it took about 2 hours and we love the result!

Next up we will tackle the floors!  Stay tuned!!!!

As always, I love to hear your feedback!

  1. I didn't realize how easy it was to put up smart tiles. I have seen them in the store but I thought installation was the same as traditional tiles. Thanks for showing how quick and easy it could be. I love that you call the RV Bertha. Does she have a nameplate?
